The Bachelorette - Week 1 Power Rankings!

We've been waiting ALL spring for this and it is finally here. Week 1 of the 10th season of The Bachelorette. For avid watchers of the last season of The Bachelor, you will remember darling Andi who left of her own accord when she decided she couldn't be with someone who doesn't get to know her (despite being on a show where he was dating 25 women at one time). But Andi is now front and center and her journey to find love begins TONIGHT at 9:30 pm only on ABC.

We are back with our Power Rankings this season. After a one point loss during The Bachelor last season, Josh is out to even the score while Chase is hoping to hold onto the crown.

The Contest: Two guys (Josh and Chase) who have no business ranking The Bachelorette contestants rank the contestants. We predict who is safe and who is going home in the upcoming episode of The Bachelorette and provide our expert analysis.

The Rules: Josh and Chase will rank the remaining Bachelorette contestants. Points will be awarded each week based on how well Josh and Chase predict the contestants going home. For example, if Josh puts a contestant in spot 7 and Chase puts her in spot 10 and that person goes home, Josh will get 7 points and Chase will get 10.

The winner (the person with the most points) at the end of the season must purchase flowers for the winning player's mother.

ADDED TWIST #1 - The Power 5 - Josh and Chase have each chosen five contestants who they think will go the furthest this season based solely on the information provided on ABC.com in advance of the premiere. Each person's Power 5 will remain the same for the duration of the show regardless of elimination. For every Power 5 pick in the actual final 5 contestants, each player will receive 5 additional points.

ADDED TWIST #2 - The First Impression Rose - Whoever has the person who receives the first impression rose ranked HIGHEST will receive 5 additional points. This will only apply to Week #1.

And to put your worried minds at ease, Chase wants everyone to know we are still both here for the right reasons.

Without further ado, may the best man win!

POWER 5:

1.    Eric, 31, an explorer from Citrus Heights, CA - We’ll talk more about this in a post later this season, but I’ve put Eric Hill as the top ranked contestant this season as a tribute. Tragic doesn’t even begin to describe is untimely, unexpected and terrible parasailing death following his dismissal from the show. Life is short, call your parents often and if given the change to be an explorer…Go explore. Do it for Eric Hill. Here’s to you, Eric. Now on to the terrible puns, baseless predictions and over-the-top attempts at humor that you are all here for.

2.    Bradley, 32, an opera singer from Holland, MI - Holland, MI—known as the Tulip City—is best known as the hometown of Sufjan Stevens. That piece of knowledge is free. You’re welcome. Anyways, frequent readers of our blog will remember our dearest Sharleen from last season. Not only was she an opera singer, but she spoke frequently about her time abroad. Make no mistake about it, the casting of Bradley is no coincidence. He’s from a town that is the same name of a European country AND he sings opera? Chris Harrison should really just go ahead and get this guy a key to the fantasy suite.

3.    Josh M., 29, a former professional baseball player from Atlanta, GA - As a former professional baseball player, I think we can assume that his stay on the show won’t be a short-stop. If he ends up proposing, Josh certainly has spent enough time on the diamond. I get it…I struck-out on this explanation. Anyways, who the only thing better than a pantsapreneur (whatever the hell that is) is a former baseball player. Josh gets the nod here because they both have the same hometown. They’ll bond. It’ll be great.

4.    Chris, 32, a farmer from Arlington, IA - My College roommate is named Chris & I really hope one day he is on a reality TV show because I’m pretty sure it’d be one of the most amazing shows in the history of television. Chris is an avid a capella singer, tech mogul and wine drinker from Menlo Park, CA. So I’m pretty sure he doesn’t have much in common with Chris the Farmer from Arlington, Iowa. We’re rooting for you, Chris.

5.    Marcus, 25, a sports medicine manager from Dallas, TX - Marcus is the youngest contestant on The Bachelorette, so I have to give a nod to youth here. After Cassandra’s late season run last year, I think Marcus makes a good run on the show. His youth, combined with his Texas charm and educational background in sports medicine will keep him around for a while.

THE REST:

6. Carl, 30, a firefighter from Fort Lauderdale, FL
7. Craig, 29, a tax accountant from Denver, CO
8. Andrew, 30, a social media marketer from Culver City, CA
9. Dylan, 26, an accountant from Boston, MA
10. Jason, 35, an urgent care physician from Sturgeon Bay, WI
11. Mike, 29, a bartender from Alta, UT
12. Patrick, 29, an advertising executive from Newport Beach, CA
13. Ron, 28, a beverage sales manager from Memphis, TN
14. J.J., 30, a pantsapreneur from San Francisco, CA
15. Emil, 33, a helicopter pilot from Costa Mesa, CA
16. Brett, 29, a hairstylist from Westminster, PA
17. Marquel, 26, a sponsorship salesman from Las Vegas, NV
18. Nick V., 33, a software sales executive from Chicago, IL
19. Tasos, 30, a wedding event coordinator from Denver, CO
20. Rudie, 31, an attorney from Long Beach, CA
21. Steven, 30, a snowboard product developer from Encinitas, CA
22. Nick S., 27, a professional golfer from Kissimmee, FL
23. Josh B., 29, a telecommunication marketer from Denver, CO
24. Brian, 27, a basketball coach from Camp Hill, PA
25. Cody, 28, a personal trainer from Chicago, IL

POWER 5:

1.    Eric, 31, an explorer from Citrus Heights, CA - Out of fairness for the rankings and as a tribute with Chase, I’m also putting Eric number one. Both Chase and I know he won’t win this season (it’s already been reported that he passed away following his elimination from the show) but it just goes to show you that life is a precious thing. No further commentary except to say, live life to the fullest in everything you do. Without further ado, onto the rest of the rankings!

2.    Josh M., 29, a former professional baseball player from Atlanta, GA - This guy seems to have it all. Three tattoos (high tolerance for pain), an animal lover (has a dog), and appears to have it made in the looks department. This is not to mention the fact that he has size 13 (!) shoes. And you know what they say about big shoes – big feet, ladies. I worry about the fact that his profession is “Former Pro Baseball Player” (he’s only 29 so he either had a career ending injury or was really terrible). My concern is that Andi may have some PTSD flashbacks to The Bachelor Who Must Not Be Named who was also a former sports player.

3.    Brian, 27, a basketball coach from Camp Hill, PA - This guy seems weirdly normal. He doesn’t appear to have a real job (Basketball coach? For whom?) but I would bet he works with kids. If that’s the case, he has a real shot at winning Andi’s heart. He’s also right around her age (27) and lists The Notebook as one of his favorite films. Early frontrunner? Perhaps so.

4.    Emil, 33, a helicopter pilot from Costa Mesa, CA - His French sounding name could deter Andi but I’m calling it early that Emil is the dark horse of this season. He’s older (33) but seems well established, which I think will be a major turn on for Andi. He’s a helicopter pilot (badass), has a sweet beard, and lists C.S. Lewis as his favorite author (a respectable choice). My one concern is that his cast photo makes him look really smug. Instead of dark horse, we may get the resident douchebag of Bachelor Mansion.

5.    Marquel, 26, a sponsorship salesman from Las Vegas, NV - This is definitely a wild card pick due to the fact that a person of color has never made it very far on this show. That said, this guy looks super good looking, has a master’s degree (even if his job sounds fake) and seems to be really relaxed. Plus, what a great smile (though a truly terrible jacket choice in his cast photo). If nothing else, maybe he will get far enough to be the first African-American Bachelor?
